Calibrated CrossFit – Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Calibrated different than every other CrossFit gym?

While you can expect to work with barbells, kettle bells, dumbbells, and develop body weight movements, basic gymnastics skills, and push your aerobic fitness –  Calibrated CrossFit has an extensive array of equipment that sets us apart. We feature odd objects such as sandbags and sleds to give you real-world fitness. You may love our Wednesday foundational strength days that feature a beneficial combination of resistance band and light weight exercises that dramatically improve strength in beginners and propel expert fitnessers to new levels. Every day is an exciting new challenge packed with ways to get you moving better and make you equipped to tackle anything. We prioritize quality of movement over reps or load, so rest assured you will be able to train smarter than you have before. Just ask our members.

I’ve never done anything like this before. Can I do it?

Who can do CrossFit?

Short answer: everybody.

From kids to parents to grandparents, former collegiate athletes and beginners, from the competitive to the non-competitive, CrossFit meets each person where they’re at in their fitness journey and is a no-BS approach to improving your physical, mental, emotional, and social health. Our program can be modified to welcome people of all ages and abilities and millions of people have already experienced CrossFit’s transformational benefits in more than 13,000 affiliated gyms across 158 countries.

Can I try a class before signing up for a membership?

Of course! We insist that everyone try us before signing up. We can answer questions for you all day long but nothing tells you about our facility, coaches, and community of members more than trying a class.

So what exactly is this On-Ramp Program all about?

Many of our new members that join Calibrated CrossFit haven’t had any experience with the CrossFit style of training. Therefore, all new members start with our “On Ramp” Program. It’s designed to introduce you to the CrossFit methodology, the core CrossFit movements, and the intensity of the workouts.  Just like CrossFit as a whole, the On-Ramp is a learning experience, not a gut check. You can’t “fail” the On-Ramp.  Everything is designed to scale to your ability. We’ve had elite athletes, as well as elderly retirees that haven’t lifted a weight in their life, all successfully complete this program. After you complete the classes, you’ll be ready to jump into any of our daily group classes and start moving safely, efficiently, and effectively.

What does a CrossFit Class look like?

A CrossFit class is a one-hour group session led by a coach. A typical class at Calibrated looks like:

  • Whiteboard Brief & Class Introduction — To start, you will gather in front of a whiteboard where your coach will walk you through the workout, the movements, and ideas for scaling.
  • Warm-up — Your coach will take the class through a warm-up to prepare you for the rest of class.
  • Skill or Strength piece — After the warm up, your coach leads the class through a skill or Strength piece which is related to the movements in that days’ workout.
  • Workout — Once everyone’s ready, your coach will start the clock and the entire class will do the workout together.
  • Cool down —  Fist bumps, sharing scores and stretching to transition you back into your day

I have more questions but can’t think of them right now.

Not a problem.  Please give us a call or drop us an email! We would be more than happy to answer all of your questions.
